With the changes in law, remote commissioning practices are now permissible in the Province of Ontario.
Effective August 1, 2020, Ontario commissioning legislation permits the practice of remote commissioning.

Similarly, under Bill 190, the Ontario Government amended the Notaries Act to establish that a notary public may “exercise his or her powers without being in the person’s physical presence.” Thus making e-notarization legally permissible.
